Our story
Aroha Care was founded by a team of professionals from medical, nursing, and health leadership backgrounds, with a shared mission to raise the standard of care staffing in the UK.
We are a division of Ethicare Resourcing—an established healthcare recruitment company—created to focus specifically on UK care homes, hospices, and supported living services. The name Aroha is a Māori word meaning love, compassion, and empathy—values at the heart of our approach.
We exist to do things differently. Our model addresses the real challenges faced in care settings today: over-reliance on inconsistent agency staff, burnout among carers, and poor continuity of care.

Our leadership team
Sophie Careem
Founder/CEO

Sophie leads Aroha Care, building on her experience as Senior Change Manager at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and as founder of our parent company, Ethicare Resourcing. An innovator and positive disruptor, she’s passionate about raising the bar in care, starting with how we recruit, support and value the people who deliver it. With a background in service redesign and workforce transformation, Sophie is helping to shape a service that puts people and purpose first. Outside of work, she’s wild about dogs, wild camping and brushing up on her Spanish.
Ebony Julian
Operations Director

Ebony brings over seven years of frontline care experience and recently qualified as a registered nurse in 2023. With a Postgraduate Certificate in Management, she now leads our care staffing function, overseeing the recruitment, support, and standards of the carers we place. Ebony plays a key role in building a safe, skilled, and compassionate workforce as we grow. Outside of work, she’s a proud mum to her young son and two lively dogs, and enjoys baking, countryside walks, and thriller novels.
Dr Jude Oben, MD
Board member

Jude is a Consultant Hepatologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Associate Professor at King’s College London, with a career that blends clinical expertise, academic research, and national policy influence. As Co-Chair of our Care Quality Committee, he brings a sharp eye for standards, a deep understanding of complex care systems, and a fearless approach to asking the tough questions. Off-duty, he unwinds with a chessboard, a tennis racket, or adventures with his four sons at their home in Portugal.
Professor Alastair Sutcliffe
Board member

Alastair is a Consultant Paediatrician and Professor at UCL, globally recognised for his research into IVF and child health. As Co-Chair of our Care Quality Committee, he brings depth, challenge, and clinical wisdom to the table, holding our standards to account as we grow. Outside of work, he tends to his garden, climbs mountains, and plays violin (not always tunefully, by his own admission)

Our vision & mission
Our values
At Aroha Care, our values are the heart of everything we do.
We believe that care is more than just a service—it’s about creating meaningful connections, fostering respect, and treating every individual with dignity.
Our values guide us in our work, ensuring that we recruit and support a workforce that is compassionate, skilled, and committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those who rely on care.

Care Like Loved Ones
We treat every person the way we’d want our own loved ones to be treated.
Kindness and empathy guide every interaction—with clients, colleagues, and families
Safety First
We never compromise on safety. It’s at the heart of everything we do — for those receiving care and for the professionals delivering it.
Always improving
We learn, reflect, and keep raising the bar.
We’re committed to growth—both as individuals and as a team—so we never stop learning.
Everyone Belongs
We embrace every identity and deliver culturally safe care.
We’re proud to create inclusive spaces where everyone feels respected, represented, and safe.
Giving Back, Looking Forward
We believe in leaving things better than we found them — whether it’s through community connection, sustainable choices, or small acts of kindness that ripple outwards.
Open & honest communication
We speak up and listen well.
We foster open communication, encouraging feedback, curiosity, and accountability at every level.
Whether you’re looking for care professionals or to become one, we’d love to hear from you.
